Manuscript types

(Research/Review) Articles must describe the outcomes and application of unpublished original work. Progresif invites submissions from all disciplines within the scope of Da'wa, Social and Communication.. As a multi- and interdisciplinary journal, we particularly welcome research/review that traverses the boundaries of disciplines. Submissions may be theoretical, empirical, or interpretative in nature and should critically engage with the relevant body of literature. It must include a clear introduction, argumentation, and relevant conclusion. Research/review articles should be between 4,000 and 6,000 words in length. If deemed suitable by the Editors upon submission, submitted research/review articles undergo a double-blind peer-review process.

Book Reviews should cover newly published monographs or edited volumes (max. 5 years) on the relevant subjects, by a renowned publishing house. It should provide both an overview of and critical engagement with the main arguments. Additionally, the author should situate the book in the relevant field of social and cultural studies and reflect on its relevance for the field. Book reviews should be between 1,000 and 2,500 words in length. Book reviews do not undergo a double-blind peer review process but are reviewed by the journal's book review editors. 

General Guidelines

  1. The manuscript has never been published nor is in the submission process for publication to other media (journal etc) and does not contain plagiarism.
  2. The manuscript is written in a proper English or excellent Bahasa Indonesia with a line density of 1.15 spaces, Garamond 12 font, A4 paper size, 3 cm top margin, 2.5 cm left right bottom margin, and Arabic Typesetting 21 (for words in Arabic letter). Use the journal template.
  3. The manuscript length is 4000-6000 words and adheres to the Progresif's author guidelines as well as template. 
  4. The citation technique adheres to the 7th APA (American Psychological Association) Style; body note. See for more details on the manuscript template.

  6. All submitted manuscripts will go through an editorial process which includes an initial examination by the editor, double-blind review by the reviewer, manuscript revision by the author (if needed), and copyediting and publication by the editor. Manuscripts that are eligible for publication can be re-edited by the editor without changing the author's original idea.

Manuscript Structure

    1. Title
      • The Title is Written in Capital Letters at Each Word's First Letter, except for Conjunctions.
      • The title should be concise, effective, and informative, with a maximum length of 16 words¸ including the conjunctions.
      • Font Palatino Linotype 16 Bold, 1 space
    2. Author Identity
      • The manuscript is completed by the author's identity which includes: Author name without academic title (Palatino Linotype 12 in bold), author's institutional affiliation, country, and e-mail (Palatino Linotype 10, 1 space).
      • The student-author's institutional affiliation is his or her study institution.
      • The multi-authorship paper's name order must be agreed upon by all authors, usually based on the amount of contribution and participation in conducting the research and writing the report. All authors are required to share equal and fair responsibility for the content of the article.
    3. Abstract
      • The abstract is written briefly and factually, covering background, purpose of the study, methods, results, and conclusions.
      • The abstract is bilingually written in English and Bahasa Indonesia in about 200 words in one single paragraph in Palatino Linotype 10 single-spaced.
    4. Keywords
      • Keywords consist of 4 - 6 words or phrases with alphabetical order.
      • Keywords separated by semicolons (;).
    5. Introduction
      • "INTRODUCTION" is written in UPPERCASE type with Palatino Linotype 14, 1.15 spaced and bold.
      • The introduction should contain the background to the problem; and objectives. 
      • The author should explain the research problems accompanied by data so that it becomes the urgency of the research. In the next paragraph, the author describes at least five previous studies that are relevant to the manuscript-under-research topic. From the previous studies, the authors can explain the gaps and research differences, so that they can formulate a state of the art or research novelty.
      • Based on the proper ratio of the article length about 4000 – 6000 words and the introduction should not be too extensive, about 30% or 1500 words or 2 pages 1.15 spaces, and refers to some literature that is the basis for theoretical framework or research rationale.
      • For research articles, in the last paragraph of this chapter, the author should explain the research method which consists of research design/type/approach, data and data sources, data collection techniques, and data analysis.
      • Paragraphs are arranged in such a way, with the settings on Spacing (before = 0pt, after = 6pt). Line Spacing is set at 1.15 spaces. Between the sections are 1 beat distance. Palatino Linotype 12pt.
    1. METHODS
      • The research method should be included in the Introduction. The method contains an explanation of the research approach, subjects of the study, the conduct of the research procedure, the use of materials and instruments, data collection, and analysis techniques.
    1. FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION
      • The results obtained from the research must be supported by sufficient data.  The research results and the discovery must be the answers, or the research hypothesis stated previously in the introduction part.
      • “FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION” are written in UPPERCASE type with Palatino Linotype 14, 1.15 spaced and bold.

      • In the first sub-chapter, the author explains the theoretical framework of the research that is relevant to the discussion. Theory must be operational, in the sense that the theory used is by the research topic. The theory is quoted from primary references and strengthened by developer theory obtained from secondary references. It is not allowed to review theories at length if they are not related to the discussion.
      • In the second subchapter, the author explains the exposure of the research data. The data is presented in tabular form for the APA 7th Edition model and is accompanied by accurate references. Data presentation must use triangulation techniques (observation, interviews, and documentation) except for literature research.
      • In the third sub-chapter, the author describes the data analysis, discussion, and research reasoning. In this subchapter, the author is also required to review the research topic in depth by considering the theory tools and research data. The author also has to dialogue the results of research findings with several other relevant research findings. Do these findings corroborate other research or criticize other research? Then ends with the author's idea independently.
      • For review articles, the title of these chapters and its arrangements might be adjusted based on the necessities.

      • 8. ConclusionThe conclusion should answer the objectives of the research and research discoveries. The concluding remark should not contain only the repetition of the results and discussions or abstract. You should also suggest future research and point out those that are underway.
      • 9. References 
      • "REFERENCES" is written in UPPERCASE type with Palatino Linotype 14, 1.15 spaced and bold.
      • The literature included in the reference list contains only the sources cited or quoted in the article and possible to be traced in the (online) public archives.
      • It is recommended to prepare the references with a bibliography software package such as Mendeley, EndNote, Reference Manager or Zotero to avoid typing mistakes and duplicated references.
      • In general references in articles at least from 20 sources which 75% are from journal articles and 25% are from other sources (sources other than journal articles) within the last ten years.
      • Adheres to the 7th APA (American Psychological Association) Style and written single spaced in Palatino Linotype 12. For details, see the template.
